Our New Home
We signed the lease and got the keys to our new place today! I immediately rushed over to give the place the once over. (why had we not seen it beforehand you ask? well my sister and her husband live in the same complex and we were told all units were identical…so we just went with what we saw at their place).
Anyway, I immediately picked the place apart and became so negative about the whole thing. What did I expect from a rental property that wasn’t just built yesterday? It definitely has some wear and tear. The counter tops are worn down and stained. The tile floors are all loose. The fixtures are dated. There are carpet stains on a few areas of the floor. Ect. ect. Needless to say it killed my joy for a few hours.
Then I got to thinking. I have been obsessing about one day living in a cottage. A place that has character and charm. A place that will probably have some wear and tear. Only before today I have always admired that wear and tear to be part of its character and charm. So why did I suddenly become so disappointed with our new place because of that exact wear and tear that I had just so previously called character and charm??
So as I have given myself a few hours to reason things out in my head, I have renewed my excitement and joy towards our new place. I will accept the character and charm of our new home and embrace it! I cannot wait to get moved in over the next week and have a fresh start to decorate.
Goodbye apartment life, hello townhouse life! (well they call them apartment homes, but they are two stories and connected in such fashion as a townhouse would be…so I’m going with townhouse life!!) Yippee!
